Hello Everyone!
I am so proud of Charlie (my husband). He made me a farm table for my kitchen. This was his first attempt at making a table and he did an awesome job.
This was definitely a learn as you go project for him. He hand chiseled the top of the legs for mortise and tendon supports for the table.
And let me tell you that this table is sturdy!
The table top is made with six cedar boards. First I lightly sanded the rough finish on the boards. Next, I stained the top a dark walnut and then used a stain stripper on it to remove some of the stain. I then applied Minwax Paste Finishing Wax on the top.
I used white home made chalk paint to paint the table. To find out how I made my own chalk paint you can read about it here.
I heavily sanded the table base and then applied Annie Sloan clear wax.
I originally had a round table in the kitchen and this is what it looked like before.
If you notice I used the same chairs. I painted them white using the home made chalk paint. I sanded them and applied Annie Sloan clear wax. I also recovered the chairs with a red ticking fabric.
Today is my birthday and NO I’m not telling my age….just kidding, I’m 52 today! For a few years now, Charlie has always planned a weekend getaway for my birthday and we usually would go to the beach. But this year, he surprised me and took me to Pennsylvania instead. And you know what else he did….he found and printed out a whole page of Antiques shops/malls that we could go to in that area! Needless to say, I was in seventh heaven!! I have a lot of things to show you but for now, I’ll show you a couple of things that I bought.
One of the things I bought was a gathering basket which I have placed on my new kitchen table.
I love how big this gathering basket is.
And another fun find was a wooden lemon press which I have placed inside the gathering basket.
I have never seen a wooden one before. I actually passed this up and then I asked Charlie if we could go back and get it the next day. There was actually something else I passed up on and went back to get the next day also, but I’ll show you that in another post.
I do believe that my hubby is a keeper! He always tells me and I quote “You’re a spoiled rotten baby” and I wonder why that is!!!
As always, thanks for stopping by and hope you all have a wonderful day!
Gail
