Decorating Dilemma

My niece just recently moved into a new home and she has asked me to help decorate her daughter’s room.    As you can see in the picture below, her biggest concern is the electrical panel boxes.

What an ugly eye sore!  It’s the first thing you see when you enter her room.

My first suggestion to Ashley (my niece) was to paint the electrical panel boxes the same color as the wall.   I was also thinking that she should  center the bed in the corner and hang a canopy like the one pictured below.

Rose Petal Canopy

By  doing this, the bed and canopy would then become the focal point of the room instead of the electrical panel boxes.  What do you think?  Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Gail painting the doors the same color as the walls and adding a canopy is a great way to hide it. I was even thinking making a faux door out of shutters. Martina

  2. Like the canopy idea :) You could also use a large Canvas hanging on the wall covered in a favortie fabric to hide the boxes. Canvas is lightweight and would be easy to take down if you ever needed to get to the boxes :) Good luck!

  3. Hi Gail,
I completely agree with both of your suggestions. They sound great.
Have a lovely day, my friend.

  4. Love the canopy. Any little girl would love it. Painting the doors the same color would be great.

  5. That is a good idea or take the headboard off the bed and add shutters or fence pickets over the boxes to form a new headboard.

  6. I like your idea. Every young girl should have a canopy bed!
LOVE your Dad's old workbench and how you've transformed it into a very cool bedside table. It looks fabulous!!

  7. Gail Put a large picture in a frame over it... I know that they are against the corner of the wall But if you make it big enough it will work I would say put a large mirror then the canopy But not sure if that is safe for a young child. Just a thought. What you suggested will look good as well.. hope to see the finish...

  8. Your idea's are great. I have painted a painting on a fuse box door but with one not in the center of the wall it would look odd.

  9. Beautiful idea but only one thought. Electrical panel boxes have to gotten too in a hurry sometimes and it might be difficult with the bed there. I'd move the bed to another wall if possible and paint the box and wall the same color Maybe hang a bulletin board or something over it that could be lifted off easily. Hope my opinion helps.

  10. The first thing that popped in my head was to chalk board them...and then use some cute colored chalk to write cute fun stuff! You got a lot of great ideas here. Donnie makes a point, you need to be able to easily access those, I know on occasion we have to.

  11. I agree with Donnie - The bed should be moved away from the electrical panels, just for safety's sake if no other reason. But making them part of some wall art - maybe the door and/or window into a cottage of some sort - might be fun.

  12. My first question is why are electrical boxes in a bedroom???? Your idea is wonderful...love the canopy. Also thought of having someone paint a cute scene on the panels. Liked someone else's chalkboard idea possibly. But probably painting the same color as the wall and then trying to camouflage by putting something in front would be best.
