Spring and Summer Mantel Shelf and a Pig with Wings

Hello everyone!  With signs of Spring everywhere, it was time to change the mantel shelf in the family room from Winter to Spring.  Especially since I just heard that the temperatures this week are going to be soaring into the 70’s.

003

This time around I wanted to go with a country farmhouse feel with the mantel.

014

Most of the things I used were things I already had except for the galvanized tins.  I bought them 40 percent off at Michaels.  I made the topiaries you see inside the tins.

012

Of course changing things on the mantel shelf meant that changes to the sitting area were inevitable.  This is what the area looked like before….

021 - Copy

…and this is what it looks like after I made changes.

009

I made new chair slip covers and the burlap table topper.  I purchased the pillows at Kirkland’s and I also bought the cutest pig with wings.

010

Isn’t he the cutest thing!  He was the last one they had.  The sales clerk told me that they were such a big seller and that they had been  “literally flying out of the store”.

005

A few of you asked about the burlap doily I have on the dining room table…….I made that too.

028

I may not have a fireplace mantel but I sure do have fun decorating my little mantel shelf in the family room.

002

As always thanks for visiting and I’ll be back on Sunday for The Great Spring’tacular Party over at Debbie Doo’s.   My copy cat challenge has to do with this sweet little rocking horse.

001

Until then, enjoy your weekend.

Gail

  4. That shelf is a great idea for a mantle.
I have no mantles to decorate or a shelf.
Yours is decorated just like a mantle should be.
    Cute little piggy as well.

  5. Gail, do you know you really have a knack for putting stuff together? Some of us struggle to get it right. I'm gonna start saying WWGD when I try to arrange my stuff. What Would Gail Do?

  6. I love your little pig...second one I have seen this week. Thanks for the encouragement and I hope you will share how to make the burlap topper...it would be perfect in our new place. Is the burlap wide enough to do with out a seam? cuz I don't see one in yours. lencar@cox.net
