Shades of Gray

Hello Everyone!  I can’t believe what once was black and looked like this……

008 - Copy - Copy

….now looks like this.

054

I painted it using two shades of homemade gray chalk paint.    First, I painted it a dark gray and then dry brushed it with a lighter shade. Then I finished it off with only clear wax.

I stenciled the front using Metallic Shimmering Silver paint.  I also replaced the original white knobs with glass ones.

I sanded the top and applied 3 coats of Miniwax Ebony stain on it.

Thanks Kathy for helping me decide on a stain color.  I was undecided on what color stain and after consulting with Kathy at Creative Home Expression via emails, she helped me make my decision and I am so glad she did….I love that color stain with the gray!

Do you believe that if you break a mirror that you will have 7 years of bad luck?  The frame you see below had a mirror inside and guess what I broke it!

056

I had taken the mirror out of the frame and added an antique effect to it.  When I was putting the mirror back into the frame, it broke.  I have to say it also broke my heart because it looked really nice and it was a lot of work antiquing that mirror!  Now I have an empty frame.  I guess I could just leave it completely empty or paint the inside with what’s in there now with chalkboard paint or maybe get another mirror cut for it.  What would you do?

Charlie and I did attend the estate auction sale on Saturday and I have started working on some of the things that I purchased.  I’ll share some of those projects with you soon.

As always, thanks for stopping by and hope you all have a wonderful week!

Gail

Well, for the mirror I think I'd buy a new mirror to put in it and age it like you did, love the frame on it!

  15. Your piece turned out amazing! I love the color combination.

You could always have plain glass cut and spray the backside with Krylon's Mirror spray paint. It gives the glass the look of an old mirror.

  22. Morning Gail! This looks so pretty I want to paint my black pieces a lighter color now. That frame is gorgeous - love the shape. Have you thought about doing subway art on black do a quote or subway art on that using thinner fonts? I think that would be kind of cool because of the shape of the frame rather than the standard rectangle - just a thought. I know whatever you do with it I am going to love it. I like Vickie's idea too of an antiqued mirror effect. Another great project.
    Sincerely, Jeannette

  26. Get out Gail, that is super looking!! Love the dark top. You link that beauty up all over would 'ya? One of your best transformations, and it came right to my little 'ol email box. If that is how something turns out after you break a mirror I'm gonna go break one so I have 7 years of awesome projects.
