This Little Corner of Mine…..

…..in the living room where I keep my grandsons’ play things looked like this yesterday.  002

Well today it looks like this!

015

I brought in a china cabinet that had been sitting in the garage that Charlie and I purchased several months ago.  I’m using it to house some of our grandsons’ toys, books and games.

009

And also an old family chest for all of their match box cars.  Let me tell you, that chest is full!

020

I surprised myself in that I was able to fit just about everything in the china cabinet and the chest.  That is, after I sorted through all of their play things.   I even had room on top for a few of my things!

011

Now when I’m sitting on the couch, I’m looking at this.

016

Instead of this!

002

Much better don’t you think?

016

Now, I need to organize/clean the garage.  Between their toys and my “stuff” we have taken over the garage!!  Poor Charlie hardly has room to park his truck in there…and it’s an over-sized two car garage.

For those of you who live in the Southern Maryland area, I’ve listed some items for sale.  You can check them out by clicking on the Items for Sale tab under my blog header.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful week.

  1. Love it, Gail!! I definitely know what you mean about taming the toys! I have a 3 year old so I am always trying to find ways to hide them in pretty things. :) Looks great.

  6. Clever idea !!
And if you didn't want to look at the toys inside the cabinet you could use double-stick tape on the inside glass and put a pretty piece of fabric !!
Hey- think I gave myself an idea !!

  7. Hi Gail! Oh, honey, you've been busy! I love how you're using the cabinet which is lovely, by the way. Doesn't it make you feel great to get so organized? :)
Thanks so much for popping in to see me and I'm so glad to be back to blogging!

  10. Yes, I like the new view better. Cabinets are great for cleaning up the mess. I'm looking for a few of them for my craft room to get myself organized too.

  11. I love it. How wonderful that you didn't bring that hutch in to fill with old antiques...but to fill it with the things your grandkids love. That must make them feel so special.
I was just thinking I need to move our stack of toys out of the living room...might rethink this and give them their own cherished place of honor...instead of the spare laundry basket.

  13. I love that you chose a china cabinet-
    no bending!
    What a great idea.
I can't tell you how many lego pieces I have stepped on barefoot when my grandsons visit-
    but I wouldn't trade a thing.

  15. What a great idea, Gail! I have the same thing here and I only have the one grandchild right now and she's only 2! I have been looking for a console table with a bottom shelf to hold the baskets I use to keep her toys and books in. I could fit one in the sunroom {where we usually hang out}. I think it will look so much neater with the baskets corraled that way rather than just sitting on the floor.

  16. What a super idea. I love the china cabinet, and the chest, both are gorgeous. Seems those toys just grow and grow. Great solution. Hugs, Marty

  17. Gail yes it does look much neater and prettier! What a cleaver idea. And you did not have to shop for it either! I used some creative ways to hide my daughters things when she was little too.I hate looking at a messy pile of toys!

  19. Much better....I have a trunk that is full, FULL to the brim of legos! My grands head straight to it when they are here.

  20. I love your new cabinet and trunk! They look beautiful and most of all serve a great purpose. Isn't it wonderful when those two things happen simultaniously?

  21. That is a fantastic piece of furniture and transformed the toy corner. Just told my kids the other day I have more little kid stuff in the family room now with only 2 grand kids, than I did when all of them were at home and small. I need to do this.
