I’m on a roll…two posts in the same week! A few months ago, I bought this chair at an auction but it didn’t look like this.
It looked like this.
I painted the whole chair with white chalk paint including the fabric. I then used brown chalk paint to trim it out.
I used one of my Maison De Stencils grain sack stencils that I ordered and stenciled with Martha Stewart Vanilla Bean acrylic paint.
Then I distressed the chair and applied the Annie Sloan clear wax to the whole chair including the fabric.
All in all, I’m quite happy with the way the chair turned out. Originally, I was going to replace the fabric but decided that I would try painting it instead. I have to say, painting the fabric was very time consuming and it took about five coats to completely cover the fabric.
As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Gail

ReplyDeleteyour chair is gorgeous! what a great job!
ReplyDeleteIt's just beautiful, Gail! I love it! Great color on the chair. I think if it is the type of chair that it would have been a headache to change out the fabric, painting it is a good option. Love the stencil you used, too.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, my dear. Isn't painting over fabric liberating? Great stencil choice.
ReplyDeleteVery adorable Gail, loved that you painted over the fabric, that's one thing I haven't tried yet:) Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love how you painted it white first, then went over that with the bronwn. I'd love it if you linked this to my new linky party, "What We've Accomplished Wednesdays." It is live right now.

That looks fantastic! I'm so glad to see this project because I've been thinking of painting my end chairs in the dining room and they are similar to yours. Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteGail, it looks amazing! WOW! You are really, really good at refinishing furniture. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAll of your transformations are so inspiring! What a difference in these pieces and your added touches like the stenciling are just wonderful. This just might be the year that I start trying some, as well. I would also love to get some tips from you someday about going to auctions. We have never been! Hope you have a great weekend and it doesn't get too crazy up there with the big storm coming!

Love the chair. I'm going back to my chair that I chalk painted a while back and giving it a few more coats on the fabric! Love the white chalk paint with the brown wood frame on your chair, it couldn't be more perfect.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Is it going to your shop? If so, tell it not to get too comfy because I'm sure it will sell quickly! Just gorgeous! Hugs, Leena
ReplyDeleteOh my word, what a beautiful redo. Love it. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWow, Gail, the chair came out great. I have heard recently about fabric spray paint. I must give it a try. It might be a little easier than the chalk paint, but I love the result you achieved and I love the stencil too.
ReplyDeleteOh Gail, that looks fabulous! I love it, are you going to sell it or keep it? I know it will sell very quickly.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Cindy

ReplyDeleteI've come "this" close to painting fabric before, but, then, chickened out! LOL. I love seeing how you transformed the chair by painting just about ALL of it. The added graphic is such a perfect touch!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful chair with her update! You did a marvelous job, especially painting everything. The stencil is great!
