Adding Little Touches of Spring

I have been so busy with my booth lately that I have not even taken the time to decorate my home this year for Easter.  However, yesterday I spent the whole day cleaning and adding touches of Spring here and there. 

I love tulips and nothing says Spring more to me than tulips. 

I also changed a few things on the entry way table.   

I added a birdcage where I placed faux greens and an old metal chippy bird.   

 

At the front door, I added faux dogwood blossoms to my Mom’s old rain boots.

   I love that I have my Mom’s old rain boots…… 

……and my Dad’s old straw hat.  

I miss them so much!  

Easter is a time for sharing Blessings and I want to thank you for the Blessings of our friendship.

These little piggies……

went to the market (my booth)……

….and this little piggie stayed home with me! 

Last week, Charlie and I went to visit our son in Tennessee.  While there, we went to quite a few flea markets and antique shops.  During one of my shopping sprees, I purchased three old quilts.  One of the quilts was rather worn but I purchased it knowing that I would do something with it.   With that being said, I did indeed make something with it.  These little piggies were made out of that old worn quilt! 

I wonder what else I could do with it…..I still have a lot of that old worn quilt left….any ideas?

Our Home Away From Home for Tuesdays at Home

Shutter Doors

After several disappointing trips to our local Restore in search of shutter doors, I finally scored!  Not only did I score on three sets of shutter doors, I also bought three electric wall sconces.

I wasted no time when I got home,  I started painting.    

With Charlie’s help, we converted one of the electric scones into a plug-in and attached it to the shutter door.   The cord runs in the back.     

  I used Miss Mustard Seed’s (MMS) milk paint.  I painted it Typewriter (black) and Linen (white).  Then I applied MMS’s creamy wax.

I wish I could have plugged it in for you to see how beautiful it is all lit up.  Unfortunately, I took it to my booth on Friday and didn’t get a chance to take a picture of it at home.   And I don’t have an electric outlet in my booth. 

Hope you all are enjoying this beautiful spring like weather we are having.  Sad to say, but we are being told that by the weekend it’s suppose to get cold again.

Drop-Leaf Side Table

First, I like to start off by saying I LOVE Miss Mustard Seed’s wax!  This drop-leaf side table was used as my guinea pig for my first attempt using Miss Mustard Seed’s (MMS) milk paint and wax. 

I ordered several different MMS milk paint colors.  I used Linen on this side table.  I have to be honest, I messed up the first time when I mixed the milk paint…..I added way too much water.  But the second go round I got it right. 

  When I first applied the milk paint not much paint chipping occurred.  But when I applied the second coat, it chipped a lot!  In fact, there was hardly any paint left on it.  At that point, I sanded best part of the table down with my sander and then reapplied the paint.  You can see in some areas where the paint was still chippy.

   I used one of the stencils that I purchased from Maison De Stencils and stenciled on top of the table.

I have to say, I really like MMS milk paint.  I would definitely use it again.  In fact, I’ve already started another painting project using it.  But what I LOVE is her wax!  It goes on smooth and is so easy to buff.  

Now, this little drop-leaf side table is headed to my booth.

5 Drawer Dresser Make-Over

Hello Everyone!  Last week, I went to an indoor yard sale with Charlie and my sister where I bought this 5 drawer dresser.    

I scrubbed it down before I took a picture of it because it was a filthy mess!  I think Charlie was a little surprised that I actually wanted to purchase it because it looked pretty bad.  This poor thing had been neglected.   Charlie and I did some minor repairs to it.  We replaced the bottom of a drawer because it was falling apart and strengthened some supporting pieces. 

With a little TLC and a vision, it now looks like this…..

I painted it with white chalkpaint and with Charlie’s help (I’m not very good with 45 degree cuts on the miter saw), we added the trim to the front of each drawer.   I Mod Podged fabric inside the trim and added new knobs. 

I also added little bun feet on the bottom.   

I’m very happy with the way it turned out.  I think my little make-over has even surprised Charlie because he was not sure there was much hope for it!  Now, I can’t wait for my sister to see it!  Hopefully, she will read this blog post or come by before I take it to my booth on Friday. 

  Last week, I ordered MMS milk paint and yesterday my order came in.  I can’t wait to try it out on this little table!
