Coffeehouse Sign

For those who know me, know that I love coffee and no matter what time of day, there is always coffee brewing in my home.

I have been wanting to make a  “coffeehouse” sign and I have  finally done it!

016 - Copy

I used scraps of lumber and chair rail trim that I had on hand.  I stained it walnut and then painted it all white.

015

My first thought was to leave it all white and stencil black lettering but I changed my mind.  I wanted a little more color so that the top trim would stand out.  I ended up painting the bottom red.

008

Using my Cricut, I made a COFFEEHOUSE stencil.    Immediately after I stenciled, I sanded and lightly rubbed the walnut stain over it with a cloth.

009

What do you think….should I have gone with my first thought and left it white with black lettering or would you leave it as is?

001

Did you know that the definition of a coffeehouse  is a place where coffee and other refreshments are served and people gather for conversation and entertainment.   Well, I think this coffeehouse sign best describes my home.

Cherish Memories

When we were sorting through my parents’ pictures, we found a picture of my Mom dressed in a Santa suit and my Dad was hugging her.

Santa Picture

Of course seeing this picture brought back lots of memories for my brother, sister and myself.  We  reminisced about the many times Mom wore this Santa suit.  Mom had been asked to attend many Christmas gatherings through the years by family, friends and work to be Santa and pass out gifts.    It wasn’t until later that we (my brother, sister and myself)  found out that Mom was the “Santa” for three years at our Elementary school.

This year will be our first Christmas without either one of our parents and I wanted to do something special with the picture instead of keeping it in an album.   I decided to frame it so that it can be displayed and be part of our Christmas.

010

I used Christmas scrapbooking paper, my Cricut and the SCAL.   The buttons and trim that I used were from  my Mom’s sewing box.

014

My Mom loved being  Santa’s helper.    Everybody young and old  loved  Santa (Mom) and my Dad was her biggest Santa fan.   This is certainly one of many  memories that will be forever cherished in all of our hearts.

The Cutest Rooster

I found the cutest rooster today at  HomeGoods store  and I just have to bring him home with me.

002

I love the details and the color of him.   I think he has the cutest face.

024

For now, I have him  sitting on the bottom of an antique table that has been in our family for a very long time.

018

I just love it when you find something so unexpectedly and then you end up being happy with it.  That doesn’t always happen with me.   I am usually tweaking something I’ve purchased.

009

Today, I’m joining Marty at  A Stroll Thru Life for Tabletop Tuesday so that I can show off my  cute rooster find.

Home – The Perfect Nest

What better way to say how you feel about your home than on the inside of your front door for all to see.

001

I’m a collector of inspirational phrases and this one definitely made my list and is now on my front door.

004

005

Using my Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) font program and my Cricut, I cut this out on vinyl and applied it to my front door.  This was my first attempt working with vinyl and I must say it was so easy.

008

My husband said that our front door is “ definitely me”.

002

Hope you’re enjoying this beautiful day.

Heart of the Home

Welcome to my kitchen!  Shelia at Note Song is having a Heart of the Home party so I’m joining in and sharing a few photos of my kitchen.

It’s hard to believe that a year ago our kitchen looked like this.

003

With a lot of hard work, our kitchen looks like this now.   We added crown molding at the top of the cabinets;  painted the cabinets white;  added hardware to the cabinets; installed new counter tops; installed a new sink and faucet;  added new appliances and tiled the  floor.

019

I even painted the table and chairs.

030

A vignette on the counter.  I love this picture!

032

Another vignette.

018

The table and shelves are the most recent addition to our kitchen.

015

As you enter through the kitchen door, this is the entry wall you see.

020

I have to show you this because I’m so proud of  my coffee filter wreath that hangs on the kitchen door.  001

Well there you have seen the heart of my home.  It’s still a work in progress.  I was hoping that we would have installed the backsplash but unfortunately it’s not done yet…..I have my fingers crossed that may be within a week.

Falls on the Porch

What a beautiful weekend it was to be outside and I took advantage of it with some fall decorating on the front porch.

001

This year instead of using my pumpkin topiaries, I decided to change things up and  use cornstalks and mums.   I purchased my cornstalks and mums at a local farmers produce stand.   There mums were absolutely gorgeous and not to mention huge for only $7 a piece.

004

I added a fall floral cone with window screening to each cornstalk.

012

I love how it adds that fall touch to the cornstalks.    If you would like I could do a tutorial on how I made the floral cone.  Just let me know if you’re interested.

I think my fall decorating is complete.  It is just in time with Halloween and Thanksgiving just around the corner.

Our Friendly Little Ghost Tree

As a Grandma, I love spending time with my grandsons and one of many things I enjoy doing with them is fun crafty projects.    When Brandy @ The Moody Fashionista created little ghost friends by using leaves,  I knew this would be a fun craft project to do with them.   I took it one step further and we created a friendly ghost tree using leaves.

010 - Copy

The making of our little friendly ghost tree started with a hunt in the woods to find the perfect tree branch.  It was a beautiful fall day to be in the woods.

005

The boys were prepared, they took their  toy Black ' n Decker chain saw and their John Deer weed whacker just in case we should need it.

003

We finally found our tree branch!  The boys loved exploring the woods.  We found deer tracks and lots of acorns.

006

With their painting shirts on, the boys painted  all the leaves white while

014

Grandma spray painted the tree branch and the string of lights black.

001 - Copy

We hot glued the wiggly eyes on the leaves.  We then assembled our little friendly ghost tree by adding the string of lights, attaching our little ghost friends with tree hooks, added some orange tie bows  and used fishing line as garland.

Our Little Friendly Ghost Tree all lit up.

They both were so excited and loved working on this little craft project with Grandma.

It was such a fun crafty project to do on a cool fall day.  I love being a Grandma!

More Topiaries

Look at what I made……more topiaries and I used acorns to make these!

005 (2)

They were so easy to make;  candle holders, floral clay, wire garland, acorns, and berries.

001

I used  floral clay to hold the acorns upright and added the wire garland and berries.

003

A close-up of the wire garland and berries.

013 (2)

I just love the colors!

006 - Copy

I think they look really nice sitting on the top shelf in the kitchen.  The backdrop for this vignette is the old cabinet door that I got at the Luckett’s Antique Fair. The wicker acorn I purchased at The Christmas Shoppe.  I added a burlap bow to it.

007

I love the old time feel it provides to our home.  I hope you like the topiaries and perhaps it has provided some inspiration for you.
