A Red China Cabinet

Can you believe it’s February already!  When I think of February I think  of red.  So today I thought I would show you what I finished and it’s red.  About a month ago, Charlie and I found this china cabinet for my daughter-in-law at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. 

She wanted something like this china cabinet to go into her country kitchen. And she wanted it painted red but not a bright red.   So I painted it red just like she wanted and it’s in her kitchen now.  

I used Annie Sloan chalk paint.  

I first painted the whole piece with graphite and then primer red.  After it dried, I sprayed water here and there and wiped it down to show signs of  wear.  Next, I applied both clear and dark wax.  I really like spraying with water versus sanding.  It’s not messy at all!  I learned something else too, the wax is hard to get off glass.  Make sure you tape around glass before applying the wax….I learned the hard way! 

Charlie and I delivered it to their house yesterday.  I think it looks really nice in their kitchen.  Now we just need to accessorize it.  I’ll  take pictures once we’re done and post them. 

Up next, this replica of an antique wooden ice box.    

 

It’s been in our family for about 25 years.   It belonged to my parents and now our son and daughter-in-law have it in their kitchen.  She wants me to re-do it for her so I may sand it down and re-stain it.  What do you think?
