Happy Thursday everyone! While cleaning this morning I realized that I haven’t shared my new vintage scale that I bought at an auction.
Charlie and I attended an auction a few weeks ago and it was the biggest auction I have ever been too. They had four auctions going on at the same time. Three of them were held outside in different fields and each field had a different starting bid. The auctioneers ride in a golf cart and go up and down the rows of merchandise. At first it was a learning experience for me and I wasn’t sure I really liked it. You had to bid quickly or you would lose out, since the items moved very fast. After losing out on a couple of things that I really wanted, it didn’t take me long to get the hang of it. I almost lost out on this scale because someone had moved it from one row to another row which you’re not suppose to do. But lucky for me, I found it and stayed right there until the auctioneer reached us on his golf cart. Needless to say, it was a bidding war at first but I won! I ended up paying $50 for it.
I now have three scales and each one is different. I placed this one on the open shelving in my kitchen.
And I have this little postage scale in the kitchen also.
I did purchase other things at this auction. I have been working on some of the furniture pieces that I bought and I’ll be sharing all of that soon.
I’m hoping we can plan another trip back to this auction again sometime next month. Next time around I’ll know how it works!
As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Gail

I love it and have looked at several this week, but did not bite the bullet and pay what they wanted. They were 75 and up. You got a good deal for one that size.
ReplyDeleteThe patina on the scale is awesome and is so charming on your shelf. I have never been to an auction that is so huge but it sounds like you had a good time.
ReplyDeleteWell worth starting a war over!!! I love the rusty white finish on your wonderful old scale. And you've got it so nicely displayed on your shelf full of more vintage goodies!
ReplyDeleteYou have a great collection of scales. I love your newest addition. Your whole hutch is displayed so beautifully.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful new scale and your vignettes are lovely! The auction sounds like quite an experience! I've never been to one that large before! I've been to one here where they will run two auctions at a time and my husband kept an eye on one while I watched items in the other. Tag team junking! I just found your blog through Feathered Nest Friday and will be following, looking forward to more inspirational and fun posts and photos! Feel free to visit me at pinkcherubmoon.blogspot.com. Have a wonderful day! Hugs, Leena

What a great old scale. It looks so pretty on your hutch. I like the pumpkin on it too.
ReplyDeleteThat is a cool looking scale Gail. Makes for a perfect vignette. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteLast year I won a scale at an auction. The kind with the big scoop thing you can lay a baby in which is why I got it. The problem is that the person before me painted it lime green. I haven't felt like sanding it down. Now that I know a few painting tricks maybe I should get it out and have another look at it, yours sure look pretty on display.

after reading some of your wonderful posts, can you tell me how you make homemade chalkboard paint? I love the results!
ReplyDeleteHow fun, I went to auctions with my dad as a young girl and he found some really wonderful things at them. Once, he bought just a box of stuff, sight unseen and there was a pair of black velvet shoes in the box that fit me perfectly. I was only nine years old and I'll never forget them.
ReplyDeleteI love the scale that you found there, the other scales are fabulous, too.
Hugs, Cindy
What a fab find!

ReplyDeleteGail, your vintage scales add a lovely touch to your vignettes. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a heavy one Gail. It is beautiful. Auctions make me terribly anxious and it is easy for me to get carried away. Best for me not to go. You go for the both of us:}
