Silver In The Dining Room

The picture frame wainscoting and painting is done in the dining room.   I really like the architectural details this gives to a room.

021

I’ve changed a few things in the dining room since I put it back together.  On the buffet, I  accessorized with some of the silver that I purchased here and there from Flea Markets and Thrift Stores.

I LOVE my champagne bucket that I purchased for $2.  It is now being displayed on the buffet.  I made a topiary ball using greens and placed it inside.

055

The tray was a recent purchase  at a Thrift Store.  I have it sitting on an easel.   The cracker holder is housing some votive candles.  It looks really nice at night all lit up.

The glass bowl is another recent thrift store purchase.  It has a silver base around the bottom of it.  I placed some glass pears and greens in it for now.

053

I was excited to find the little silver cups at a thrift store that I have on the shelves.  I paid $1 each.  Again, I made two little topiary balls and placed them inside the cup.

068

I really like the touch of silver in my dining room.

Bed Makers For Hire

My grandsons surprised me and made my bed this morning!

003

And for doing such a great job, they both got a great big fat kiss from Grandma.

Enjoy your day,

Oh NO Honey, Look What I’ve Done!

I tested a two shade lighter color that I have currently have on the wall now in the living room and I’m really liking it!

016

The only problem is liking it this much means that I now have to re-paint the living room, kitchen and hallway because it’s all one open space.

015

Honey, you should not have left me to go to work today because if you where here, this probably would not have happened!

Have a wonderful day, you know what I will be doing….painting!

Tweaking The Guest Room

While waiting for my husband’s help to finish the picture frame wainscoting in the dining room, I’ve been tweaking a few things in the guest bedroom.

002

I made new pillows for the bed.

004

The floral print fabric was the  reason behind this little tweaking make-over.   I loved it and wanted to find a way to incorporate it somewhere in my home.  It happened to be the perfect shade of blue for the guest room.

008

009

I rediscovered some thrift store, auction and yard sale items to tweak the mantel.

007

021

A little over a year ago when I redesigned this guest room, most of the furnishings I placed in the room were either free or purchases from yard sales, thrift stores or auctions.

The mantel and bedside dresser was a purchase at an auction.  I paid $1 for the mantel and $2 for the bedside dresser.

004

The china cabinet and the chair in the corner were both freebies!  The china cabinet is used to house a TV.

  008

The chandelier was a  $15 purchase from the Habitat for Humanity.

021

Isn’t it amazing what a little TLC and paint will do.

 027

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.

Adding Picture Frame Wainscoting

Happy Spring Everybody!  How was your weekend?  We didn’t get the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful spring like weather.    Instead, we spent most of our weekend inside or at Lowes.  We were planning and measuring for our powder bathroom renovation and adding picture frame wainscoting to our downstairs living space.

I love the look of picture frame wainscoting and  have   wanted to add it to our downstairs.   First Charlie performed the math calculations  to properly size and space the pieces.  Then we began installing it in the hallway and kitchen.   Below are pictures of  the hallway before adding picture frame wainscoting.

The start of adding frames to the wall in the hallway.

026

031

Charlie did an awesome job on the stair cuts.  Now that required some math and I’m not good at math!

032

And now the after of our hallway.

036

Before we start putting picture frame wainscoting in the living room, I NEED to convince my sweet, sweet husband that we should replace the wood stove below…….

012

with this.  Isn’t it gorgeous!  Wish me LOTS of luck on convincing him on this.  He loves his woodstove!

Thanks for stopping by and may your day be filled with lots of sunshine.

Master Bedroom Reveal

I’m so excited to be sharing with all of you the completion of my master bedroom make-over!

A little over a week ago, my master bedroom looked like this.

032

And now it looks like this!

034

I won’t bore you all with details of this transformation, I’ll just share pictures.

003

026

  027

031

Yes, I’m a fan sleeper!  I have to have it on for the noise and plus my feet get hot at night.  I hate my feet hot!

034

I LOVE my master bedroom make-over!   It has a cozy yet romantic  feel to the room which was exactly what I envisioned for our master bedroom make-over.   It’s like our own little retreat!

Now that the master bedroom is done, it’s time for a master bathroom make-over and that is in the works.

Thanks for stopping by and may your day be filled with lots of sunshine.

Our Special Day Vignette

I have wanted to display some of my wedding pictures, but had yet to find the right place in my home.  With the completion of my bedroom makeover that has a more intimate feel to it, I think I have found a home for my wedding pictures.

085

I recently framed a letter that my husband wrote  me the day before our wedding.  And it seemed  appropriate  to place our hands,  just fitted in wedding bands, below that letter.

095

I placed some other wedding photos beside my letter, all placed atop of a faux fireplace that my husband and I made a few years ago.

092

I think the candles add a nice ambiance to the setting; a setting that reminds me of one of the most beautiful days of my life.

078

Thanks for stopping by and may your day be filled with lots of sunshine.

Nasty Looking Bench!

Do you remember this bench?  I purchased it a few months back at a thrift store in Virginia.  It was one nasty looking bench.

020

Well it has gotten a complete make-over and it’s not nasty looking no more.

060

I re-upholstered the bench and it’s now at the foot of my bed.

001

My drapes for the bedroom has been on back-order and I received an email the other day stating that they have been shipped.   Once I get the drapes and hang them up, my bedroom will be done….HOORAY!

Thanks for stopping by and may your day be filled with lots of sunshine.

An Elegant Damask Stencil

I’m still here!  I’ve just been busy working on my bedroom.   I wanted to show you my stenciling project that I just finished.

051

I stenciled the brown strip with a damask  stencil.   I wasn’t sure at first if it was going to be too much of a pattern, but I have to say, it’s not and I really like it.

053

Well now I’m off to finish up with the caulking so that I can do some touch up painting on the crown molding and trim.  Then the fun starts…..accessorizing!

Thanks for stopping by.

The Start of a Master Bedroom Make-over

Hello Everyone!  Over the weekend, Charlie and I started working on one of my goals for 2011 which was a master bedroom make-over.  Pictured below is a before of our master bedroom.

032

And this is the start of the after.   I removed the wall border, painted the walls , added crown molding, trim and replaced the old lighting fixture with a new chandelier.

 029

Charlie busy hanging trim.

028

I thought I would share with you a sneak peak of the fabric headboard I made with the new bedding.

 045

Thanks for stopping by.  There will be more to come as I complete this master bedroom make-over!
