Upstairs Landing

Up until a few days ago, our upstairs landing had been the most forgotten space in our home.   I have been on a mission to change that and I think I have done what I set out to do.   Take a look.

024

Most of the things I used were stashed in my shed from auctions, yard sales and thrift stores with the exception of a few recent purchases, the table being one of them. This is what the table looked like when I bought it.

001

I loved its size and knew that it would work perfectly on our landing, but the color wasn’t right.   So I stripped the top and painted the base of the table with ASCP off white.

008

I was going to stain the top after I stripped it but decided not to and I’m so glad I didn’t.  I really like the top with the natural wood finish.

Another recent purchase was the terrarium you see on top and I bought that at Kohl’s.   It was fifty percent off and I think I paid $19.99 for it.

034

Inside I placed a wire clay pot holder.  I placed moss covered rocks with tea lights in three of the pots and I placed a faux plant in the other one.    033

How do you like my little lamp?  It was a $5 thrift store purchase!

012

I love the patina on this mirror.  I debated whether or not to paint it when I first purchased it months ago at Goodwill.   I’m so glad I didn’t!

007

I think I have a thing for little stools because I have so many of them scattered throughout my home.

013

Maybe that will be my next blog post…..how many stools/benches I have and where I have placed them.

I’ve made a few changes to the upstairs landing since I last posted about the Curio Cabinet and the Stenciled Closet Door.  You can read about that here and here.

018

I’ve changed a few of the quilts inside the curio cabinet and placed a little quilted stool beside it.  And I added a little table beside the stenciled closet door with a lamp on top.

003

I like this little set-up better because the lamp lights up the stairway at night.

030

Well now that the upstairs landing is done, I’m in the dining room and I’ve been making some changes in there!  Wait to you see all the silver pieces that I purchased at the Salvation Army the other day.

As always, thanks for the visit and your sweet comments.  They are always appreciated.

Gail

  1. Oh I love your new landing set up, along with the curio, and the stenciled door. What a showcase of an upstairs landing and hall area! I love the lamp, too!

You have a thing for stools, mine is old chairs! Gave most of them to my daughter when we shared the antique mall space. There are a few I wish I'd kept. Guess that's as good enough reason as there is to go "a hunting!"

  2. Love it and the table is fabulous. The stool is providing great texture. I have three stools right around our stone fireplace. Joe swears I am going to break a keg on one. I say no I am elevating my legs on them. Sometimes my junk too!

  9. Gail, if this comes up as a duplicate comment, just delete it. I don't know where my first comment went!

I love the layout and the table. I have one that is a similar size that I am using in my craft/sewing room. Great terrarium and great price! I was just in Kohl's today but was in the clothes clearance section. I'm sorry I didn't go look in the home decor clearance area now.

  13. Goodness it looks wonderful and I am so glad I saw this post! When our son was back last week to work on the outside house project it snowed and blew like crazy so I had him texture the stairwell and upstairs hall way landing. I am loving what you did with yours and it gives me much inspiration for mine! Thanks!

  18. There's nothing I don't love on your landing. Your table looks great with the raw wood top, and I'm glad you left the mirror alone because it looks great with the table and other dark accents. Looks great!!
