Well I can’t believe it! It’s my very first blog post. I’m so excited to be sharing with you a guest room redesign using auction items, yard sale finds and giveaways (freebies). I couldn’t think of a better first post than inviting you into my home and to be the first to visit my guest room. Enjoy.
Below are before pictures of the room. I must apologize because I started prepping the room and realized that I hadn’t taken any pictures. So I somewhat put the room back just to give you an idea of what it looked like before.
In redesigning the room I wanted to create a relaxing and airy feeling to the room. Sorta like a beachy feel. For those of you who know me, know that I love trash to treasures. Below are pictures of items that I had gotten at auctions, yard sales or were just freebies.
I got this fireplace mantel at an auction for a $1.00…..can you believe that!
This chair was a freebie. When I started tearing the chair apart to reupholster it, I discovered it had cane siding. See pic below.
You know I didn’t cover that up.
This foot stool was a yard sale find for $2.00.
This night stand was an auction item but I’m not sure how to put a price on because it was sold with an allotment of stuff which I got for $2.00 So if I had to break it down I probably paid maybe .25 for it.
Now the big reveal!
I made the headboard by using the fireplace mantel. The mantel was a cream color before and I wanted it white so I dry brushed it and made a fabric insert for the opening.
I told you I didn’t cover those cane sides up. I spray painted the chair black and used a beige fabric to reupholster it. The pillow in the chair I made that says “Love is spoken here.” I’ll tell you how I made the pillow in another post. I love those cane sides!
This was an easy fix…..just spray painted the legs and used a very soft striped blue fabric.
I spray painted the nightstand black and added a bead board wallpaper in the middle and put a trim around that. I also added a door pull that I got at a yard sale. There was a whole box of door pulls and knobs and I believe I got the whole box of hardware for like a $1.00, at a yard sale.
I almost forgot to mention the walls….I painted the walls Mountain Air by Sherwin Williams and my Sweet Sweet Hubby Charlie, helped me hang the chair rail. He’s the one that makes my ideas become reality. I keep him busy!
There’s a story behind the fan in the pic below. I spent $54 for that little stinker! I was at an auction and this lady had the same taste I did and she was bidding against me in everything, but I was determined that she wasn’t getting that fan from me. I know I know I paid too much for it but I had to have it! Isn’t it cute?
Charlie keeps telling me that he wants to do a sleep-over in the guest room because he really likes how it turned out. So tell me what you think? Leave me a comment. More post to come.
Blessings,
Gail
