A Few Thrifty Finds This Week

Happy Friday Everyone!  I can’t believe this weather we’re having here.  Yesterday I had the air conditioner on in the house and today I have the heat on AND tomorrow they’re calling for snow showers.  It will definitely be hot cocoa weather tomorrow.

The other day I went to an Antique Marketplace and found a few things that I wanted to share with you.   I bought a cast iron kettle pot for $25.   I think I got a good deal on that.

For now, I placed a fern in it and have it sitting by the front door.   Maybe this spring I’ll place it outside on the front porch.

Another purchase was a 1973 Vintage wrapped Chianti Wine Bottle.  What caught my eye was the wrapping around the bottle.  I don’t know where I’m going to put it yet because I running out of space but I’m sure I’ll find a place.

Gotta love Good Will!  Recently one opened up about 25 miles from me.  Since it’s opening I try and go at least once a week.   Their prices are unbelievable compared to our local thrift stores.   I purchased a few items there as well this week; a mirror for $8 and another oval picture for $5.

I love the patina on the mirror.  I’m not sure what or if I’m going to do anything with the mirror.  I kinda like it like it is.  Would you paint it or leave it like it is?

I also purchased a wooden dough bowl at the Antique Marketplace and a few other things at Goodwill but I’ll wait and show you those finds later.   I may end up going back to the Antique Marketplace this weekend because there were a few other things I really liked but didn’t get.

Enjoy your weekend and I’ll be back on Sunday evening for Debbiedoo’s Magazine Copy Cat Challenge

030 - CopyI’m all ready for it!

  1. That's a tough call as to whether to paint the mirror. I go around and around on some things! I don't think you'll go wrong either way. It's a very cool mirror.

  2. I like the gold. I know some do not like gold but I like gold mirrors and always have. I buy what I like no matter what the trend.

  3. Fun finds! If I could trust myself with the technique, and I had the right room decor/scheme for it, I'd paint the mirror antique/distressed white, kind of a shabby chic look. Gold looks good, too, though.

  4. You sound like me, Gail! I went to the local flea and antique mart two days in a row! The second time to get something I had been thinking about that I didn't get the first time. Great mirror. I probably would paint it. I love these detailed mirrors and they always seem to show off their detail even better painted.

  6. Nice finds Gail. To paint or not to paint, hmmm. Live with it for a while before you decide. I don't paint everything. Can't wait to see your doughbowl. Love those.

  7. I love the mirror - typically I'm not big on gold...but the age on yours makes it really interesting looking. If it were mine, if I decided to paint it, I'd probably use a black or bronze glaze to try to tone down any of the brighter areas...I'd just dab it on and wipe it off - like a stain. I'm looking forward to seeing your other finds.

  8. Like you, I love the aged look, and a little hint of glitz and glamor never hurts. But the mirror is gorgeous, so whatever you decide, you can't go wrong!

  10. I just saw a chalk paint technique that would look fantastic on this mirror. You can see it here:
