The Porch–Red, White and Blue

What gorgeous weather we had for this Memorial Day weekend!

009

We spent most of our time outdoors this weekend enjoying the company of family and friends.

011

A couple of mornings, I actually took the time to sit on my front porch and drink my morning coffee.

013

It almost felt like I was on vacation.  Have you ever felt that way?

020

I guess tomorrow it’s back to reality, working in the garage.  No more fun in the sun at least not until this coming weekend.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful week!

007

027

I just have a few more things left to do and then I’ll share it with you.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all are enjoying this summer like weather we are having.

Picket Fence Organizers

I LOVE days like this!  I spent most of it in the garage working on projects and I feel like I accomplished so much.  Two of the projects I finished were these picket fence organizers.  I did one in green…….

008

  …….and the other in white.

012

I had enough picket fencing left over from making potting benches to make two of them.

010

I was so proud of myself today because I hooked up the air compressor and used the nail gun for the first time without Charlie’s help.  I have used the nail gun many times before but Charlie has always hooked it up for me.

013

Don’t you just love days where you feel like you have accomplished so much?  I’m hoping tomorrow will be another productive day but I have a funny feeling it won’t be.  I am going to be working on an old washstand and it needs a lot of work but I’m going to think positive.  Maybe it’s not as bad as I think it is.  I’ll keep you posted!

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful and productive day tomorrow!

The Tobacco Basket

Hello Everyone!   I hope you all  had a wonderful weekend.  The weather here was absolutely gorgeous!  Last week, I was given a tobacco basket that I said I would share with you where I was going to hang it.  After I cleaned it up I hung it in the family room.

005

I placed it on the wall behind the sofa.

009

The mirror I have in the middle of the basket was an auction purchase many years ago.  I kept flip flopping between the mirror and a wreath but the mirror won out!

016

This is a full view of the family room.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Tobacco Basket

Hello Everyone!  Look at what I was gifted……

004

…..it’s a tobacco basket!!

For years, I have been wanting and searching for one. They are so hard to find and when you do find one they are expensive.

I know exactly where I’m going to hang it and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Thank you Darren for such a lovely gift!

As always, thanks for stopping by.

Potting Bench and My Booth

Hello Everyone!  It has been a busy few weeks keeping up with the demand for potting benches.  We sold three already!  We just finished another one and I took it to in my booth.

015

All of them have been a little different in design with this one being a little smaller than the others.  If this one should sell, I’m already planning the design for the next potting bench.

013

While I was at my booth the other day, I took a few pictures of it to share with you.

017

019

Not that I’m complaining, but hopefully this week I can work on other projects other than potting benches.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Attic Finds

Hello Everybody!  The other day my door bell rang and it was my next door neighbor.  She asked me to come over, if I had a moment .  She said that she and her husband had been cleaning out their attic and they had a few things they thought I might be interested in.  Of course I said yes and walked right over there!

Sitting there was this beautiful oval coffee table.

003

I wasted no time on this piece when I brought it home.

004

I sanded the top and painted the base with Annie Sloan white chalk paint.

009

I lightly distressed it, applied Annie Sloan clear wax and restrained the top with Minwax Wood Finish Provincial.

006

And, then there was this old weathered rocking chair.  I started painting it with Miss Mustard Seed Lucketts Green milk paint before I realized that I hadn’t taken a picture of it.

002

Although I didn’t get as much chipping with the milk paint as I had hoped, I am still happy with the results.  Some of the old white that was once on the rocker still shows through.

001

003

I love these attic finds especially since I barely left the comfort of my own home to get them.  I have spent many hours hunting for treasures like these!

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!   This weekend I plan on hitting a few yards sales.  Tis the season and there are tons of them listed!!

Dinning Room Changes

Hello Everyone!  I wanted to share some of my dining room changes.  Keep in mind that I’m not quite done yet.  I plan to repaint the dining room in July or August when it’s too hot to be outside.  Right now the weather is too pretty to be inside painting!   To see a before of my dining room you can go here.

The biggest change I made to the dining room was adding black buffalo check fabric.

001

I repainted two dining room arm chairs from white to black and added the black buffalo check fabric to the seating.

002

The picture behind the chair is one that I had forgot that I had.   It is a photograph of my grandmother feeding chickens on the family farm.

009

I found it about a month ago in an old suitcase that I was given.  We’re guessing she was probably about eleven or twelve years old when this picture was taken.

002

I kept the plates on the wall but I changed the vignette on top of the buffet.

007

I replaced the dining room chairs with these chairs that I purchased at an auction a while back.

  003

As you can see I painted all of them black.

019

I wanted to change the lighting in the dining room but I haven’t found exactly what I’m looking for.  So until I do, I am making do with what I have.  I did make a change to the shades.  I covered the shades with twisted manila rope.

017

Covering those shades has really made a big difference.  It was an easy fix for very little money.  I priced out new shades and they were expensive!

017

When I purchased the black buffalo check fabric, I purchased enough fabric so I could make simple valances out of it to hang in the dining room.

008

002

The inspiration behind my changes in the dining room were the result of finding my grandmother’s picture.  I’m so glad I did!

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Head Board Bench

Hello Everyone!  Have I told you lately how awesome my husband is?  I pick up twin head boards here and there when I see them at a good price.  Look at what Charlie made using one of the twin head boards.

002

He never ceases to amaze me at what he can do even though he tells me he’s not a carpenter!

001

I think he did a darn good job!

003

The other day, I took it to my booth.  Now, I’m hoping he will make another one (or two) for me since I have two more twin head boards in the garage.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful week.

Drop Leaf Table

Hello Everyone!  Several months ago,  I purchased this drop leaf table at an auction knowing that it was going to require some work.  The top had some deep scratches.

007

My intentions were to sell it.  Now that I’m done with all the hard work of sanding, staining and painting, I’m not so sure I’m going to sell it.  I think I’m going to keep it for myself.

008

I placed it behind my sofa and I really like it there.

001

I accessorized the top with things I already had with the exception of the black kitchen scale that I recently purchased.

048

How do you like my corn cob carrots?  Aren’t they cute!

047

Charlie and I finished the head board bench.  I can’t wait to share it!  It turned out really nice.  Now we need to get busy and build another potting bench.  The one we just made has sold already.

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a blessed week.
