I can’t believe my idea worked!!!! I made a lamp with the tin rooster I bought.
I purchased a Make-A-Lamp and a Lamp Pipe Kit at Lowes.
I drilled a hole through the tin rooster for the pipe and then I followed the instructions on the Make-A-Lamp kit. It was really easy. The hardest part was drilling through the tin for the pipe.
I’m not sure about the shade yet. I bought several different ones and I don’t like the ones I bought. They were either too big or too small. The one I have on it now was in my shed. It was white and I tea dyed it. I guess it will do for now until I find something that I like better. What do you think? Do you like this shade or should I cover it?
As always, thanks for stopping by. I do appreciate my followers and I always love your comments.

I DO like this shade! It has just the right touch of elegance! Love the whole vignette. XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteBrava, Gail! Great job! I like the shape of this shade, the color is good, too. Kind of a rustic elegance look between the rooster and the shade. If you did want to cover it with fabric, I'll bet colors/patterns similar to your wall hanging behind the lamp would look great.
ReplyDeleteI've done this with lots of different items!
ReplyDeleteI have one lamp in my kitchen that I made from an old mixer (http://ties2thepast.blogspot.com/2010/09/new-kitchen-lamp-from-old-mixer.html) Such fun & a great way to personalize a lamp for someone!

I like the shade with the beads paired with the rustic rooster, great contrast!
ReplyDeleteI'd keep it until after Christmas since you will probably be using Christmas colors, just an idea:)
I love that you did this~! I like the shades but I have always disliked those hanging beads lol.. something about those takes away from the quality of your new lamp. I gotta get to lowes for a couple of those lamp kits. Thats exactly what I need for my own projects..
ReplyDeleteagain- great job and a Rooster lamp is always a lovely addition.
It worked indeed! Way to go.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous project!! I LOVE your lamp. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteJane
Beautiful! How in the world did you think of making a lamp with that rooster?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea! I love it, and I love the lamp shade. Diane
ReplyDeleteLooks GREAT!
ReplyDeleteHello Gail,
ReplyDeleteYou are the smart one, aren't you! I am so impressed that you made that. I love that shade, I think it's perfect!
Hugs, Cindy
Hi Gail,
ReplyDeleteLove your rooster lamp. Now I know how to make one but I need a drill! LOL!
A burlap cover on your shade would be cute. I like the one on it too.
hugs

Gail ... I love the new lamp. I'm so inspired and impressed! I love the shade, too ... I just might have to find something to drill a hole in now and turn into a lamp ... all because of you! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the lamp...I think my husband believes I'm nuts because I'm always pointing at random stuff and asking if he can make it into lamps for me. I'll have to show him your lamp and show him that it IS possible, and I can do it myself! (although I'm pretty clumsy, so power tools and I can be a bad mix). I'm not great at matching lamps and shades, but my first impressing is that I liked the beaded shade with the rusty-looking hen base...just the mixture of 2 textures/design styles. I also LOVE your scale! Thanks for stopping by my blog and becoming a follower, I've just become a follower of yours too.
ReplyDeleteGail it is sooo dang cute!! I love it and the shade you have on it!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great! What a fabulous idea!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOMG, great job Gail. I loved it as a rooster, and even better as a lamp. Nice.
ReplyDeleteI HAD a rooster lamp... my mom liked it and she "stole" it from me ;) lol
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty dang CUTE. Maybe I can rustle myself up a replacement? Great idea =)
Awesome project Gail, I LOVE it turned into a lamp! Martina
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! I have been wanting to try the lamp kit on a vintage teapot or coffee thingy. Still on the hunt for the perfect one.
ReplyDeleteI must have missed the rooster chalkboard you made, I would love to see it if you haven't shared it!
I cheated and bought mine off Etsy LOL
I'm bowing at your feet! This is so adorable! You did a great job and I would never have thought your lamp wasn't bought just as it is! Really cute shade too.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
