What a busy week it’s been so far and to think it’s only Tuesday! Between the powder room renovation, painting and sewing, I’ve been hopping from one project to another. I just finished a sewing project and thought I would share it with you. Before you look, if you are a seamstress please don’t laugh at my sewing abilities. I’m a self taught sewer and lets just say I learn as I go and hope that I don’t make the same mistake again.
I made a burlap cover for the bench that I purchased at an auction for a $1. I also made the pillows. The pillows are made out of muslin and I added a burlap ruffle. I stenciled a #5 (total # of all of our children) and a #3 (total # of all of our grandchildren) on a square piece of burlap and attached it to the front using jute string.
I made this pillow as well. It is a poem titled “Believe In Yourself”. I’ll share that project with you in a later post.
This is what the $1 bench looked like this past summer. I had it on the front porch until I decided that I wanted to bring it in and use it in the hallway.
I dry brushed a coat of white paint on it and lightly sanded it. I wanted some of the red to show through.
I really like the neutral tones that are in the hallway right now, at least for the winter anyway.
The mantel shelf above the bench.
I placed twigs from the yard and some dried flowers that I had inside each bottle that hangs below the mantel shelf.
I stenciled a #2, #4, #6 and a #8 on four key tags and attached one to each bottle.
Well, I’m off to go sew some more. I have three more kitchen chair covers to sew. I’ve already sewn one!
As always, thanks for your visit and enjoy your day,
Gail

Gail, your sewing skills look great to me! I am impressed! My mom taught me some sewing but I'm not as patient (or a perfectionist) as she was, so my projects stay small.
